A nursery of your baby's own

Lately I have been pouring over amazing snaps of gorgeous and stylish baby rooms. While the nursery at my house is, in my own humble opinion, lovely, there are some that are downright a-mazing. Think clouds covering a feature wall or delicate button decals in a confetti colour palette.

Kristy Withers from Incy Interiors says a blank canvas is a great way to start.

“One of the biggest trend in homewares at the moment is gelato colours, and that extends from what we see through fashion on the catwalk,” she says.

“A statement furniture piece is also a great way to work if you are renting or aren’t keen on attacking the walls with paint or anything too permanent.

“A simple feature chair can make a huge statement and be extremely practical, too. Identify colour trends and have your chair covered in whatever is in fashion. Or update bed covers, cushions and other soft furnishings to incorporate the latest hues.”

Wallpaper is also a popular trend, but it isn’t one the appeals to me. I’ve always avoided it because I worried about putting it up thanks to helping Mum hang it using water-activated adhesive during late 70s and early 80s. Instead, I used decals to decorate the nurseries.

The Wallsticker Company has beautiful designs that are easy to apply. Even better, they don’t damage the walls, so can be used to add interest to a room even if you’re renting. You can choose from bazillions of designs – seriously there is one for every taste – or you can design your own and have the company make it up for you. They are easy to apply, too, with no bubbling and can be placed on a dark wall with no fear of show-through.
