Tucked inside Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane at South Brisbane is a special space that does just that: a volunteer-run baby shop that’s become a lifeline for parents navigating the first days of their newborn’s life.
More Than Just a Shop
This humble shop, staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers from the Mater Mothers’ Hospital Auxiliary, is a heartwarming example of community in action. For more than 40 years, the Auxiliary has supported Mater’s maternity services, using creativity, care and tireless energy to fundraise and offer support through their much-loved baby shop in the hospital foyer.
Here, visitors and families can find thoughtful essentials for newborns, including items tailored for premature and small babies - pieces that might otherwise be hard to find in the midst of a hospital stay.
A Home for Earlybirds
We’re especially proud that the shop stocks Earlybirds premature and small baby clothing. Our garments are designed specifically with the tiniest babies in mind and each garment is soft, practical and made to suit special care needs in neonatal units. The inclusion of Earlybirds in the shop means that parents can access quality, purpose-built apparel right where they need it most, without the added stress of searching elsewhere.
Whether it’s tiny onesies or NICU-friendly outfits, these pieces help families focus on precious first moments rather than logistics and give a sense of comfort during a vulnerable time.
