Walking for Little Treasures: Lynda Joins The Mighty Trek Challenge in Melbourne

Rewarding One Lucky NICU Nurse with Some Well-Deserved Pampering Reading Walking for Little Treasures: Lynda Joins The Mighty Trek Challenge in Melbourne 3 minutes

On the weekend our founder Lynda proudly joined the Walk for Prems Mighty Trek Challenge at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, taking one determined step after another (in the rain!) for premature and sick babies and their families across Australia.

Each year, 1 in 7 newborns require life-saving care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery. Lynda's son Jackson was the 1 in 7 when he was born at 30 weeks. His premature birth and the lack of practical yet beautiful and most importantly, sized correctly for his tiny body is what inspired to Lynda to start Earlybirds 23 years ago.

For the past 20 years, Earlybirds has been proud to support Life’s Little Treasures Foundation (LLTF) in everything they do and we have watched LLTF grow bigger and better each year, offering a constant source of comfort and practical support for families of sick and premature babies, helping them navigate an experience that is as emotional as it is extraordinary.

Stepping things up in celebration of 20 years

To celebrate their milestone 20th anniversary, LLTF expanded its much-loved Walk for Prems fundraiser with a bold new initiative: The Mighty Trek Challenge. This endurance event symbolises the journey families go through in the NICU, one that demands immense strength, hope, and resilience.

Across 20 locations from Sydney to Melbourne, participants like Lynda are pushing a NICU incubator an incredible 900km, raising vital funds and awareness along the way.

For Lynda, taking part in the Melbourne leg of the Trek alongside her sister Janine was deeply personal. Having founded Earlybirds more than two decades ago after her own experience as a NICU mum, she knows firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with having a premature baby.

“We are so proud to have supported LLTF for over 20 years. Walk for Prems is a beautiful celebration of strength, courage & love within our community. As a premmie Mum, I am deeply honoured to be a part of this amazing premmie community.” ~ Lynda Day, Earlybirds Founder

Last Stop: Melbourne North East

The Melbourne North East event marked the final stop for 2025, wrapping up this inspiring national campaign with a day full of connection, community and celebration. Families and supporters came together to Walk for Prems or take on The Mighty Trek Challenge, a special addition this year in honour of LLTF’s 20th anniversary.

There’s Still Time to Support 💛

You can still be part of this incredible campaign by donating via the official Walk for Prems website. Every donation helps support families navigating the unexpected emotional and financial challenges of having a baby born sick or premature.

Together, we can continue to make life a little gentler for these tiny fighters and their families.
