At Earlybirds, we're always grateful to discover resources created by people who truly understand the NICU journey.
That's why we're so pleased to introduce Our Early Baby's Magical Garden, a heartfelt children's book written by Brisbane and Sunshine Coast neonatologist and paediatrician Dr Bec Sichter.
As a neonatologist, Dr Bec has cared for hundreds of premature and sick babies, walking alongside families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. While parents receive incredible support in the NICU, she often saw siblings trying to make sense of a world filled with incubators, monitors, tubes and uncertainty.
It was this experience that inspired her to write Our Early Baby's Magical Garden.
Through a gentle story of hope, courage and love, the book helps explain the NICU journey in a way young children can understand. It aims to help siblings feel included, bring comfort to families and make conversations about prematurity just a little easier.
As Dr Bec shares:
"Every family deserves support, and sometimes a story can say what words alone cannot. My hope is that this book brings comfort not only to siblings, but to every family navigating the extraordinary journey of prematurity."
We especially love that Dr Bec's vision extends beyond the pages of the book. Her hope is to see complimentary copies available in hospitals across Australia so families experiencing a NICU admission can receive one when they need it most.
It's a mission we wholeheartedly support.
